I must admit that I may be biased this month being a Leo, but I hope my exuberance over the sign can be a catalyst for inner change, transformation, and some good ole’ magic.
Leo season is ruled by the Sun, and in Greek myth, the Sun is associated with the God Apollo. Now, Apollo has quite the resume – he is the Sun God, a cosmocrator, he removes curses, he is the god of music and the father of the nine muses, and he is also a god of healing.
That is some list!
Since the Sun is the center of the solar system, it is not surprising that Apollo governs so many facets of life. Likewise, we can use the energy of the Sun to perform potent magic. And guess what? You don’t need any sunscreen!
When people think of the sign of Leo (and again I am biased), they think of showy, extroverted types that need to be the center of attention. Leo is considered a ‘creator type’ because they are often involved in the performing arts. However, the deeper core of what Leo is creating has little to do with entertaining the masses – entertaining is simply a byproduct. Instead, each creation, each part, and each role get them closer to what they long for – being themselves.
The exciting news: This month, we all get to tap into this powerful energy and use it proactively to create our lives.
5 Ways to Make the Most Out of Leo Season
Personal Power Magic: Standing in one’s personal power is an elusive phrase. We have a hard time describing it, but we know it when it happens. Personal power is when you are authentically who you are and pay honor to your wants and needs. If you need encouragement, inner conviction, a little bit of gumption, and the need to express your individual values in a way that boosts your confidence, this is the best type of magic to work with.

Transformational Magic: Jacki Smith and I coined the term transformational magic during our podcast, “Keep It Magic” (BTW, 6 years of archives are still available). Essentially, this type of magic digs beneath the surface and gets to the root of your problems. It’s about changing your life from the inside out and working through the true core of your difficulties to build a life you are proud of living.

Curse Removal Magic: Curses are a popular topic in the magical communities – especially with the recent influx of new witches during this social media magical revival. The ability to remove negative magical influence is important, but the worst curses are the ones we cast on ourselves. In myth, Apollo was a curse breaker, and he didn’t remove hexes by tapping someone on the head with a wand. He removed curses by providing the proper pathway through insight and ingenuity. Perhaps, the more we know ourselves, and when we are true to our own values, we eliminate the power that curses hold over us. Only then are we free!
Recommended: Reversing (Aunt Jacki’s Ultimate), Needed Change/Banishing (Blessed Herbal Candle), Tornado Alley (Wicked Witch Mojo), Sun (Astro Magic).
Star Quality Magic: This type of magic is used when you need to shine a light on yourself. It’s your own personal PR team that helps you be seen in the best way possible. You can highlight your best attributes and hide (invisibility spell) your more challenging characteristics.
Recommended: Success (Root Chakra Magic), Venus (Astro Magic), Wishin’ Mojo (Dorothy Morrison’s Wicked Witch Mojo)
Bo$$ Power Magic: Do you want that promotion or raise? If so, you can use Leo’s unique energy to put yourself in a favorable position with people of power and authority. This type of magic will also help you increase your finances and social standing.

Spells to improve your business are phenomenally successful during a Full Moon in Capricorn.

The peak of Cancer season occurs on July 17th with the New Moon. The New Moon in Cancer is about new beginnings in Cancer's domain – home, family, security, and even fertility. July 3, 2023 – July 9, 2023
We start the week with the Moon moving through Earthy Capricorn, the sign of her detriment. Besides the Full Moon, which occurs shortly after dawn on Monday morning, the Moon also opposes Mercury. You may go through moments of self-criticism or self-doubt. Regardless of your feelings, continue to press in and press on, because these feelings are only temporary. On Tuesday, during the morning hours, the Moon forms a lovely sextile to Neptune. The Moon sextile Neptune is great for creative projects and getting in touch with your feelings. However, be on guard Tuesday afternoon as the Moon conjoins Pluto. Intense emotions may surface that are difficult to control.
In the middle of the week, the Moon moves through Aquarius, and she only makes one significant aspect on Wednesday – a square to Jupiter. Since the aspect is a square (challenges, obstacles), you may need to contain the impulsiveness of Jupiter, but it should be a decent day. However, prepare for a shift that occurs on Thursday, as the Moon squares Uranus, opposes Venus, and opposes Mars. This trio of aspects will increase anxiety levels and provoke conflict. Make it a point to stay in your own lane!
The weekend begins with a lovely aspect between Mercury and Uranus (Mercury sextile Uranus). If you feel bored with your life, it’s time to shake things up and do things that excite you. It’s an excellent day to resolve issues because Uranus thinks outside the box and provides new insights you may have not considered in the past. On Sunday, Mercury forms a beneficial trine to Neptune in Pisces. Work on creative projects, enjoy the arts, or simply kick back and enjoy a good movie. Spiritual activities are also favored.

July 10, 2023 – July 16, 2023
The bulk of the energy this week occurs on Monday and Tuesday, starting with Mars moving out of Leo and into Virgo. Mars in Virgo is about deliberative action, so it’s time to think things out and scrutinize your decisions before making a move. The good news about this placement is that it’s willing to do the work necessary to get results, so take advantage of it while it’s available. Later on Monday, Mercury opposes Pluto in Capricorn. Avoid doing something you don’t truly believe in because Mercury oppose Pluto and can easily get sucked into groupthink. However, Mercury oppose Pluto can be used productively to get to the root of a problem, so that you can ultimately resolve it. Be prepared for life to get livelier and more colorful on Tuesday when Mercury moves out of Cancer and into Leo.
Expect the unexpected on Wednesday as the Moon moves through Taurus and conjoins Uranus. Disruptions to your daily schedule and unexpected shenanigans may prove annoying. On Thursday, the Moon moves into Gemini and forms difficult aspects to Mars and Saturn. Pent-up frustrations may potentially lead to arguments and conflicts. Try to be mindful when dealing with others.
The weekend begins with the Sun forming a beneficial sextile to Uranus. Your usual routine may feel stable and boring. You may need to bring fresh ideas and a dash of innovation into your life by experimenting with new interests and broadening your mind. If you need to make changes in your life, now is the time to do it. For the rest of the weekend, the Moon moves through Cancer. You may feel the need to stay home and work on domestic projects. Family-related issues may also be a concern.
July 17, 2023 – July 23, 2023
The third week of July is a bang and the busiest of the month with five major aspects (Mercury square Jupiter, the Sun trine Neptune, Mars oppose Saturn, the Sun oppose Pluto, and Mercury square Uranus), Leo season begins, Venus turns retrograde, and a New Moon in Cancer.
Let’s dive right in.
The beginning of the week starts with Mercury in Leo square Jupiter in Taurus. Despite the square that usually reflects obstacles. Mercury square benefic Jupiter is positive and excellent for business matters, especially if you are looking to expand or make improvements. Since Mercury square Jupiter is concerned with the future, focusing on big-picture objectives and long-term goals is recommended. Just make sure you pay attention to details and check the facts before making long-term commitments.
Mars opposing Saturn is frustrating, to say the least. Relationships that have recently been troublesome may build tensions, especially if you feel inadequate or underappreciated. You may feel like your weak spots are exposed to the world and become easily annoyed at people who try to take advantage of you. One of the easiest ways to manage Mars opposing Saturn is to pour yourself into work-related activities or your duties and responsibilities. The other is to use the energy inherent in the Sun trine Neptune, withdraw from the world, and look within. Frustrations are often a trigger for what is not working in your life, and the Sun trine Neptune is perfect for discovering where your needs are not being met.
This weekend is rough, and it’s best to approach it carefully. Otherwise, situations that could normally be managed will quickly get out of control. On Friday, right before Venus turns retrograde in Leo on Saturday, the Sun forms a nasty opposition to Pluto in Capricorn. The Sun oppose Pluto is an aspect of power struggles in relationships, and the more you try to control other people in your life, the more out of control things will be. However, the Sun opposes Pluto often reveals the areas of life that need reform and repair, and provides the motivation to make changes that make life more manageable. Tensions continue Sunday when Mercury squares Uranus. Expect the unexpected and try to be as proactive as possible.
July 24, 2023 – July 30, 2023
The last week of July is a piece of cake after the turbulent aspects that occurred last week. It features one major planetary aspect (Mercury conjunct Venus Rx), and Mercury moves out of Leo and into Virgo, where he will stay until the beginning of October because he turns retrograde on August 23rd.
The beginning of the week features the Moon moving through Libra. Relationships are the focus on Monday, and it’s the perfect day to spend time with your special someone. However, be prepared on Tuesday as the Moon squares Pluto, and intense emotions may rise to the surface. Try to manage them, rather than be controlled by them.
Midweek, Mercury conjoins Venus Rx. Putting relationships into perspective is a top priority. Since Venus is retrograde, it’s an excellent day to discuss problems or frustrations in your relationships. The gentle energy inherent in this aspect means you can resolve issues amicably. Mercury conjunct Venus is also great for art, and music because there is a strong appreciation for beauty in all its forms.
This weekend, Mercury moves out of Leo and into Virgo. Mercury in Virgo understands life through daily experiences, and you will notice that what you do right now matters. This is an excellent time to try to manage your life more efficiently and pay attention to the dirty details. The more stable your life is, the better your outlook will be. On Sunday, the Moon moves through Capricorn. Cleaning loose ends and tending to your responsibilities and obligations will be a major focus throughout the day.
